‘Choosing Wisely: An Idea Worth Spreading’, from North York General Hospital, announced at InnovationEX 2016 as ARTIC Project Winner

Thursday, April 7th Choosing Wisely: An Idea Worth Spreading, from North York General Hospital, was announced at InnovationEX 2016, Markham Stouffville Hospital, as one of the projects that will receive ARTIC funding for contributing to the theme of Improved Quality through Reducing Unnecessary Care, the 2015 call for project proposals. The goal of the Choosing Wisely : An Idea Worth Spreading project is to enable the adoption of hospital-specific Choosing Wisely Canada recommendations among the Joint Centres for Transformative Health Care Innovation, and recommendations targeted to primary care teams across the associated Departments of Family and Community Medicine.

North York General Hospital was an early adopter of the Choosing Wisely Canada program, and supported the Toronto East Health Network with the adoption of Choosing Wisely recommendations. Through ARTIC, the project team will further accelerate the adoption of Choosing Wisely Canada recommendations at Markham Stouffville Hospital, St. Joseph’s Health Centre Toronto and Southlake Regional Health Centre, and several associated primary care teams also serving those communities. As part of the project, specific implementation tool kits will be developed for Emergency Departments, Pre-Operative Clinics and for broader spread and sustainability that will be shared with health care organizations across Ontario and Canada.
